Zig Zag

For the 2023 edition of the Festival de la Cité, Zig Zag rethinks the stage of the Pont Bessières, an emblematic site at the junction with the city, where art, public space and society meet.

Echoing Lausanne’s topography, the installation offers new views of the city and marks the entrance to the festival. Two large inclined triangular surfaces, covered with a coloured granular floor, host the audience during the performances of the official programme and lend themselves to different uses throughout the day.

Designed to be modular and evolving, the 2023 scenography is the first stage of a project meant to continue over time.

Zig Zag was combined with a summer school bringing together students from both federal institutes of technology, EPFL and ETH Zurich: an opportunity to explore tools for collective work, collective design and construction.

With the support of the Ikea Foundation, the Canton of Vaud, EPFL and ETH Zurich.
